Pre-Heat Festival

Lakeland, Florida

by Harry Dingles – Double Uprising Staff Writer

Morning peeps!

Normally the press team would not be up this early, but we got a festival to go to.  This one is different that most festivals that we go to.

1. We are not “covering’ the event.

2. You don’t really cover a Burning Man Regional, it covers you.

To put it in a better word you Participate!  Sometimes when people get caught up taking pictures, worring about there next tweet or Facebook post they actually miss participating in the event.

Pre-Heat in Lakeland, Florida is a spawn of the big boy Burning Man in the desert in the Nevada and we will not be covering in the traditional sense, we will simply be smashing it!

Everyone who is reading this

take the time to ponder this. Got to this event, turn off your phone, unplug from the outside world and experience what is in front of you. It’s like a game of tag, do you take pictures from the side line (or even just watch) and say wow that looks like a fun game of tag. Or do you join in the fun.

Tag, Your it!

See you there, I will be the lad with the cape and the Treasure Chest O’ Beer.

One Love Nutrifest – Miami, Florida – 2012

February 18, 2012 at Grand Central Park in Downtown Miami

Wow, I just got chills.  The One Love Manifesto is pretty damn powerful (check it out). On February 18th, 2012 at the newly setup Grand Central Park in Downtown Miami, One Love successfully pulled off what Double Uprising did a few years back with it’s Funk Exchange Festival. The plan: combine awesome music (see more pics below), an amazing vibe,

a sweet outdoor venue, art…

Hopes and Dreams Art

and some REAL food… (Thrive website)

…and all along in the background they kept it real and supported a great cause.

One sentiment that struck me the most in the Manifesto was when they spoke about

“the need to operate as a holistic community not willing to settle for anything less than the change that needs to happen in the world.”

That is a very powerful, goose bump – raising sort of a statement that will have me covering any events that One Love and Rockaz Mvmt throw from here to the end of time.

An email I got from the Rockaz Mvmt team after the event put a lot into perspective. “Curley’s House was able to secure two tons of food and five thousand dollars to help further its mission of providing food, clothing and a variety of services for low to moderate income individuals and families in the local community.”

This was all made possible with a simple statement on the flyer to bring cans of food for free admission.  Nice!

Double Uprising…

tends to only like to cover festivals that have a real backbone- the backbone of change, while utilizing the universal unifier, music (and world music from multiple cultures!!!), to help a cause.  Beautiful!

Don’t settle for anything less than making true real change, and did I forget? The music was out of control.  The people were all smiles, danced, and kept the vibe tight. Not to mention, all my life I have been hoping to see Midnite, and I had no idea know how rocking and roots Luciano is. They are both reggae legends.

Virginia Grassroots Festival – A Rockers Perspective

Virginia Grassroots Festival – A Rockers Perspective

Virginia Key, next to Miami, Florida – February 9th-12th, 2012

Hi hopes and dreams for this festival ran through blood for months once this festival flyer came passing through my hands. I wanted it to rock. Knowing that Arrested Development was going to play, ArtOfficial, Immortal Technique and Rubblebucket were here in South Florida made my musical knees tingle.  A real camping festival at a Key near Miami even better.

Poised to rip it down on the dance floor, I looked at the computer, “Miami, Florida weather,” I searched and what did I see?! Rain. Not just any old kick and done Florida rain, but a huge system set to drench.

That Thursday night, knowing Arrested Development was going to play made me disregard that rain.  Good tunes are good tunes, regardless of the weather.

Tracey, Dallas and myself were ready to cover this festival, and no silly rain was going to stop us.

Thursday became the “Thank god for the Dance Tent” night. (see earlier article).

The shows that night were sick.

First stop Raffa and Rainer:

Did we make out alive?  Did we see wonderful moonrises over the water sitting on a beach in Virginia Key?  Stay tuned as the saga continues…..
